I grew up in suburban Massachusetts, about 45 minutes from Boston. Growing up, my family would go hiking for our family vacations either in Maine, New Hampshire, or near our west coast family in California or Washington State. As a little kid, I was jealous of my friends who would go to the beach or Disney for vacations, but as I got older my love and appreciation for the outdoors took off. As soon as I got my driver’s license I began to go for more hikes and spend more time outside. I knew that I wanted to try new things, so I chose the University of Vermont because of the accessibility to the outdoors and new skills.
Once I got to UVM, I started backpacking and camping with friends. I became involved with the Outing Club, an organization where students are trained to lead trips in the outdoors. I applied to the rock-climbing program on a whim, interested in getting more involved in the club and trying something I had always been interested in. Through this program I learned my love for rock and ice climbing and learning the technical skills associated with them. It went from a hobby I wanted to try, to something I wanted to pursue as far as I could.
Now I spend many hours at the climbing gym and trying to learn new technical skills with friends! When I’m not climbing I like running, making jewelry, playing the ukulele (badly), reading, and hanging out with friends! I am so excited to be working at Devil’s Lake Climbing Guides this summer!
