Hiring Lead Rock Climbing Guides for 2014 Season
Two months into 2014, it's clear we will need an additional lead guide this year to meet client demand. If you or someone you know is an experienced climbing guide looking for rewarding work with a small group of education-driven guides, we'd love to meet you. What we're looking for:
Devils Lake Climbing Guides seeks a dynamic, responsible and personable Lead Top-Rope Rock Climbing Guide to lead climbing trips for the 2014 summer season.
About Devils Lake Climbing Guides
DLCG inspires, educates and rejuvenates our clients by taking them out of the their day-to-day lives and into an environment of natural adventure. We deliver high-quality rock climbing recreational trips and technical courses at Devil's Lake State Park, an 45 minutes north of Madison, WI. We serve both private individuals and families, and institutions like schools, camps, Scouts, and corporate groups.
2014 is our third season in business, and we are expanding our guide corps to meet increasing client demand. Qualified applicants know guiding is much less predictable than a 9 to 5 job; rain cancellations happen, trips pop up at a moment's notice, etc. We need guides who are both excited to work and who have flexible schedules. A successful applicant may need freelance work or another job to round out his/her schedule if they need reliable, full-time work. We can be flexible with scheduling but weekend availability is a must.
Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years experience guiding climbing commercially (or equivalent) • Wilderness First Responder certification (or willingness to get it soon) • Strongly preferred: SPI/Top Rope Guide certification via AMGA, PCGI, or PCIA (or ability to attain certification Spring 2014)
Position Responsibilities
• Lead safe, fun, and educational single-pitch top rope climbing day trips with a variety of clientele • Lead smaller groups solo, larger groups with one or more assistants • Connect strongly with clients through engaging conversation and open-hearted rapport • Own and maintain your own rack and personal equipment
Dates of Employment
Fri/Sat/Sun, Mid-May through Labor Day, with additional days available contingent on client demand.
Remuneration
$150 - $175/day, depending on experience, plus occasional tips
Application
Please send me a cover letter introducing yourself and your interest, along with a professional and technical resume. Looking forward to meeting you!
