Apprentice Climbing Instructor
Apprentice Climbing Instructors are enthusiastic climbers interested in sharing their skills with others and eager to develop their own technical, movement and teaching skills through on-the-job training.
Apprentices help in all manner of trips and courses. Work frequency depends on bookings, but averages 1-2 days/week in the shoulder seasons and 4-5 days/week in summer. Summer work involves some weeks with Teen Climbing Camp.

Comfortable in a climbing environment (technical, movement, and social aspects)
Listens and responds appropriately to direction and constructive feedback

Adapts easily to a dynamic work environment
Roles
Assists Lead Instructors and Assistant Instructors on trips and courses.
Helps with client outfitting and orientation, anchor setting, belay instruction and supervision, and general logistics.
Learns local terrain and improves technical and movement skills in personal time.
Pro-actively manages risk amongst climbing groups.
Owns, develops and maintains personal climbing equipment
Availability
Ideal: April - October, weekends mandatory, up to one week/month unpaid time off if scheduled in advance
Minimum: 6/1 - 8/25/2024
Strong apprentice instructors will be eligible for continuing work into September and October.
Qualifications
Some rock climbing experience (indoor or outdoor)
Comfortable and competent with top rope belaying
AMGA CWI or similar preferred, but not required
Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required
Compensation
$130/day + standard employee benefits
